Produced and shot during 2023 and finally released in 2024, ZIPWHARF is Argon Films' debut feature, running at a respectable 95 minutes long. Held together by a shoestring budget, the film is a collaboration between friends, made totally independently; a comedy set in, around, and about London. The film was directed by Percy Manthey, and written by him, Jacob Burney, and Milo Spanyol Woods. Full credits can be found at the bottom of this page.
The film follows Eli Barnes, a floating Yoda performer who has taken his act to London's financial district, Canary Wharf. When his act captures the attention of a powerful content creator, the indominable DonBillion, Eli finds himself in the middle of one of the Don's big red circles. Things go awry, and Eli's livelihood is destroyed; he sets out for revenge. Eli enlists the help of his slobbish flatmate, Mickey Mexico, and the two plan a scheme to con their money back. However, when Eli's best friend, Louis, begins to have his suspicions, and Eli begins to fall for one of his scams' victims, Anna, things begin to fall apart not just for him, but for all of London.
"ZIPWHARF is a fast-paced, low-budget satire set in and around London in the hot, hot summer of 2026. Beginning production in January of 2023, ZIPWHARF is my first feature film, held together by a meagre ~£4000 self-funded budget and favours from practically every single person that I know. The film is a comedy, the jokes are dense - but a certain aimless sadness underpins the whole thing. London burns in luminescent yellows and greens, while something apocalyptic swirls in the sky. The people of this world are vain and petty, each looking to further their own interests while anyone who dares help them pays the ultimate price. There are also two guys in propeller hats called Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Part live action, part animated, part ironic, part sincere, I'd like to think ZIPWHARF has something for everyone. I certainly hope it doesn't." - P.M
